What Is Life Like After University?

Thinking back to my time at university, there are a few things that I wish I had known before. These are what I would have told myself and what I will tell those of you who are graduating.

  1. You dream job doesn’t come to you

Yes, sad I know, but the dream job doesn’t come to you, you have to go and get it. You have to put in the hard work, day in and day out. It can take years for this to happen.

2. You may be unemployed for a period of time

Some of us may come out of university with a job to start with, however equally just as many of us don’t. Finding a job is hard regardless of whether or not you have a degree. You have to keep at the applying, apply in bulk and a job will come.

3. The real world is scary

Once you leave university, it is only normal to feel nervous about what is to come. Good things will happen, you just need to be patient with yourself and give yourself time to adapt. Stay in the right headspace and energy.

4. Saving money is hard

Living of student loans and being able to spend the money you want is great but when you enter the real world, have a job and have to save, it can be tedious, however in the long term it is worth it. Plan and budget for your future. Financial wellness is a must today.

5. You will always keep learning

It is true when they say that learning never stops. Even if you finish your education, as an adult you will keep learning. You learn through friends, work and experiences. This is great if you are someone who thrives from growth and development.

Is there anything in particular you would tell yourself about what life after university can be like?
