Take A Walk

I love a good walk when my knee permits, but aside from that, walking has so many benefits. It isn’t just good for for our mood, it also can help prevent illness.

When I see people talk about their health and wellness they are talking about taking supplements, but what about simple exercise and nutrition?

Walking is an example of this. It can help to lower our cardiovascular risk and also improve our insulin resistance. Take a short walk after breakfast, lunch or dinner.

On top of this it can also help you to sleep better. I find that if I am not feeling the best I also take a walk. I feel less stressed and refreshed.

The final point why we should walk more is for having healthy guts. If you are struggling with constipation, maybe it is time to start adding daily walks.

Let me know if you enjoy walking and will you start implementing walking into your life?

Normalise Normal Eating

As a foodie, I want to ask you, what behaviours are you looking to normalise?

The diet culture has created a set of conditions that tell us what health is, such as eating certain foods, or eliminating bad foods from or diet and rules that tell us when we can and can’t eat, along with how much food we can eat.

How do we overcome this? The key is to eat normally.

If you want that second breakfast, have it. If you want carbs with every meal, do it. If you want a dessert go for it and if you want a snack before bed, it is okay.

Eat in a way that makes you feel good and without guilt. There is no right way to eat.

Hunger Pangs

I don’t know about you, but this time of year means all the good foods, so I want to take about the different ways in which hunger can show up.

The first way is through physical hunger. This is true need to eat. It is a bodily cue, just like the need to use the toilet. This is a form of hunger that we should honour and respect. Some signs of physical hunger can be getting headaches, struggling to concentrate and low energy. Don’t ignore these cues as it can cause you to lose touch.

The second way is through taste. This might be the craving for a certain type of food. You can respect this cue by allowing yourself to choose this food without feeling guilty and telling yourself that it isn’t bad to have it.

The third way in which hunger can present itself if through emotions. When we are feeling a certain way food may give us a satisfying feeling. Remember that it is oaky to eat for emotional reasons, but do get to the bottom of why you may be feeling like this.

The final way that we may experience hunger is practically. This means eating food because it is a good idea too even if you don’t experience the physical hunger cues. The reason we do this is to ensure that we do not go too long without eating and to stop us feeling any discomfort.

Do any of these signs resonate with you?

Love Your Food

Hey There! How are you?

I am coming at you with the word temptation when it comes to food. Do you remove all temptation?

No.

How do you fix this?

  1. Portion the food rather than handfuls of the food.
  2. Be consistent. Your relationship with food won’t change overnight. Keep eating the foods even if you do have a slip up.
  3. Get someone who can hold you accountable. That can be a coach or a family member or friend. Message or call them.
  4. Allow yourself to have the foods. Take the negative stigma away that foods are bad and enjoy it.

What other ways help you to build a healthy relationship with food?

Summer Loving

With Summer being here, there are bound to be parties, bbq’s and let’s not forget the long bank holiday weekend at the end of August.

What should you not do after a weekend of celebrations?

  • Restrict
  • Eat less the next day
  • Not eating carbs to make up for it
  • Do countless amounts of cardio.

What should you be doing?

  • Prioritise your sleep and recovery
  • Rehydrate
  • Go back to your normal eating habits
  • Move your body whether that is steps or a workout
  • Remember that you had a good time and have made happy memories.
  • Let go of what you can’t control.

You shouldn’t kick yourself for eating and drinking more than you feel was expected of you. The thing about metabolism is that there isn’t such a thing as working off the food you ate.

What needs to stop is the restricting and overeating cycles. Instead feed the body with wholesome foods all week.

Hey Fat, I’m Going To Burn You

Hey there.

Recently, I have been hearing people say, what kind of exercise should I do if I want to lose fat or reach my weight loss target. The response from others then relates to one type of exercise when in reality they may not actually be doing the exercise that is most effective.

The reason it works for this person is because they enjoy that exercise so they stick with it.

For example if someone says that they got more results from riding a bike or running rather than walking, the main reason for this is that they enjoyed biking or running so did more of that. The same would be for someone who enjoys walking but not riding a bike or running.

We do have to also remember that some people burn more calories than other people in a shorter space of time, but overall the main point here is that if you don’t enjoy the type of exercise you are doing then you won’t be on point or consistent.

The best exercise is the ones that make you feel happy and like you achieved something at the end, not that you were forced into doing it for the sake of it.

Joyful Living

A long weekend is very welcome thanks to the bank holiday over Easter.

Easter and the festivities around this can be very triggering for people especially in terms of eating.

This is my reminder to you that it is okay to eat and enjoy the food out there.

It is a time to make memories and enjoy your time with loved ones. Fitness and nutrition will always be there. After not being able to do these things for so long with the pandemic, we have a lot of making up for lost time to do.

Enjoy the food, and resume your fitness routine when you can, but don’t let your thoughts take control. You are not your thoughts.

Have a happy easter weekend.

Practice Stress or Practice Peace

What is a main factor that can be affecting your fitness journey? Stress.

When it comes to your fitness journey, you can be doing all things right such as drinking your water, getting in movement, getting rid of foods that can make you feel uncomfortable but you still might be experiencing gut problems, and the root of this is highly likely stress.

What can you do to help yourself here?

  • Meditate
  • Practice breath work
  • Use affirmations
  • Prioritise self-care
  • Avoid arguments

Eliminating stress should play a huge part in terms of helping the functioning of your body.

Be Kind To Yourself

This is my reminder to you to be kind to yourself.

You had a takeaway this week?

You skipped a workout?

You had a late night?

You didn’t drink as much water as normal?

That is okay. Give yourself some kindness.

The thing about weight is that it fluctuates for many reasons, hormones, inflammation or even salt retention. It isn’t purely down to the fact you had a takeaway or didn’t workout as much as normal.

We don’t need to do extra workouts or eat less calories or start gulping the water to compensate. It will only cause you and your body stress.

Just be graceful and thankful for the memories that you have made and return to your good habits as soon as you can.
